Note on 2008 Schedules:

During the first week of December, 2007, the railroad endured the heavy flooding that inundated much of Lewis County. Currently, we are still assessing the damage and making repairs. Our 2008 schedule may adjust in order to accomodate needed repair work. The railroad is nevertheless committed to operating a regular season of excursions again in 2008. To our passengers and prospective passengers, we will post updated schedule information in this space as soon as it is available.

Important Information

Due to flood damage to the railroad tracks, the following schedule will be in effect until further notice

Beginning May 24th, 2008

Saturday & Sunday 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm

Fares - $2.00 per person over 3 years of age

The train ride will be approximately 3 mile round trip

Dinner trains are cancelled until further notice

Regular Excursion Service:

Steam train rides on 1920s cars pulled by an impeccably restored 1916 Baldwin engine will begin Memorial Day Weekend. The first run will depart the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad’s train platform at 1:00 p.m. on Sat., May 24. The schedule will run weekends through the end of September and offers two different runs:

A one and one quarter hour 12-mile sojourn through Milburn, goes by varied and beautiful views of wooded forests, old farmsteads, country homes, and tranquil nature sites. Departing at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., the roundtrip excursion runs on Saturdays and Sundays. Space permitting, walk on guests are always welcome. Allow one and one half hours.
Tickets:

  • Adults $11
  • Seniors $10
  • Children (15 and under) $8
  • Children age three and under ride for free with an adult.

An 18-mile one and three quarter hour run through Ruth will be offered every Saturday through September. Departing at 5:00 p.m., the extended run will follow alongside the Chehalis River, its lush riverbanks, forests and farmlands. Allow two hours.

  • Children age three and under ride for free with an adult.

Dinner Trains:

In addition to its regular runs, the railroad offers regularly scheduled Dinner Trains. While riding 18-miles roundtrip in a refurbished 1920s dining car, patrons will enjoy a vintage dining-by-rail experience, complete with white linen tablecloths, full china, and impeccable wait staff. The menu copnsists of a delicious four course dinner consisting of a crisp vegetable tray, fresh salad, a tasty main course of either prime rib, chicken, or salmon with potatoes and vegetables, dessert and a beverage.

Dinner train tickets are $41.95 per person, including tax and gratuity. Pre-paid reservations are required. For best seating availability we recommend making reservations one month in advance, however seats may be available as late as one week in advance.. A schedule of 2008 Dinner Train dates will be made available in this space as soon as they are set.


Murder Mystery Dinner Trains:

The vintage 1916 Chehalis-Centralia Steam Train will provide a unique dining experience with a “who dun it?” on their Dinner Train excursion into the Chehalis River Valley. The train will depart the station at 5:00 PM and return about 7:00 PM. Dinner will be served on board the train in the refurbished dining car while clues and entertainment are provided along the way. You will have an opportunity to be a detective and solve the crime. It is fun for the whole family.

The Murder Mystery Dinner train is offered four times this year. (Dates will be posted soon.) This two-hour dinner and steam train ride is $51.95 per person. The trip includes a four-course meal with your choice of chicken, salmon or prime rib, as well as train ride tickets. Reservations are required for the dinner train. The railroad operates numerous special events trains throughout the season. A schedule of 2008 Special Event dates will be made available in this space as soon as they are set.

Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Egg Hunt and Special Mini-Rides Mark Beginning of the Steam Train Season

The vintage 1916 Chehalis-Centralia steam train will kick off the year with an old fashioned Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 22. The Easter Egg Hunt will take place at 12 noon and again at 3pm.The children 12 and under, separated into three age groups, will be invited to explore the grassy fields near the train depot in search of hidden Easter Eggs filled with candy and prizes.

Adults and youth of all ages are encouraged to enjoy mini train rides and join in the excitement. This year, short jaunts will carry the passengers for a 1-mile ride. The rides will be held between 11am and 3pm, every hour on the hour. Abbreviated trips were necessitated by flood damaged tracks and cost $2.00 per person.

Photos with the "Easter Bunny" and "Chicken Little" will be part of the day of fun. For only $3 per child they can have their photo taken with their character of choice.

The Chehalis-Centralia Railroad and Museum depot is located just west of Interstate 5 at exit 77. Turn left onto Riverside Road and follow the signs. The Easter Egg Hunt will take place rain or shine. Everyone is encouraged to wear boots and rain gear. Please bring your own Easter basket for collecting the eggs!


Pumpkin Trains

Join the fun for a special holiday treat. The annual tradition of hosting Pumpkin Train Rides behind the vintage 1916 logging locomotive on a weekend in mid-October, (dates posted soon). On Saturday, rides are at 11:00am, 1:00 and 4:00 PM. On Sunday, rides are at 1:00 and 3:00 PM. Cost per person is $10 and will include the ride, a small pumpkin and treat bags. There will be a costume contest for three age groups ½ hour prior to boarding the train, so plan to come early. Prizes will be awarded in the following age groups, 3 and under, 4-12, and 13 and older. No reservations are necessary, but come early to ensure your ride in your choice of open or closed cars. Seating is limited to the first 250 passengers. Enjoy harvest time in the Chehalis River Valley during the fall season and join the fun.
